Sephora x Pantone Universe Color of the Year Modern Watercolor Palette Review

Hi hi!!! Pantone has released the colors of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity!!

So, I had to pick this palette up! It's full of odd colors and pastels. I've searched high and low for a good pastel palette and now I've found it! It retails for $39 and can be bought HERE. It contains 24 eyeshadows in both matte and shimmer finishes. The colors of the year are both Rose Quartz and Serenity, which are baby pink and baby blue. It makes me think of Sanrio's Little Twin Stars, Kiki and Lala~ The names also make me think of Steven Universe and Sailor Moon. The nerd in me could not calm itself.

Back of the packaging
The colors! I wish they put this on the actual back of the palette though.
The actual palette has the cutest watercolor scene on it. Like, it's too cute!!

The packaging is very sturdy and has a good weight. I feel like if I drop this palette, all of my shadows would survive lol. It's not too big and not too small, so the perfect size.

Inside contains a big mirror that can bend completely flat. It's nice and stiff, so that you can leave it in any angle.
Comes with a plastic sheet with the Pantone codes on it, but I wish they put the color names on the sheet as well.

The inside has 24 eyeshadows in pastels and vibrant colors. I think they did a wonderful job with the color selections. It's, also, neat that each column can be used as it's own quad. If you're having trouble figuring out what to do with the shadows, just use the quad. And the rows match too. The top row is for pastels, the second for smokey colors, the third for natural colors, and the last for vibrant colors.

(Swatched with a white base: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk)

I took some of the palest shades and put them over a white base to show that with a base these colors really pop! They're extremely buildable and can be completely opaque with a little work.

Eyeshadows: Rose Quartz, Honey Dew, Mello Yellow, Serentity

Eyeshadows: Orchid Haze, Cascade, Linden Green, Marina

Thoughts

I love this palette!! The color selections are wonderful!! The pastels, the vibrant colors, and the beautiful shimmers were worth it! I recommend swatching some of the shades for yourself, if possible, so you can see how nice the shimmer shades are in person. It just can't be captured in photos, how the glitters shine and change. Also, all of the shades feel smooth to the touch, but the shades with the most pigmentation are the shimmers. With a white base, every shadow in this palette will work easy peasy and show up vibrantly. They can be built up for opacity or left sheer. I admit that some of the shades apply chalky, but instead of swiping on the color, they should be patted on for opacity. And, with the base the shadows are less likely to crease and you'll get rid of the weird problem that some of the matte shades have, where if you put it on with no base, they'll just like blend away or wipe off. But, nevertheless, I"m very impressed by this palette and can't wait to use it!

Pros

  • Wonderful color selection
  • Not too pricey for the amount of shadows you get
  • Can be sheer or opaque
  • Buttery shadows but can be chalky to apply
  • Sturdy packaging

Cons

  • Needs work to be fully opaque
  • Needs a base or they will slip off
  • Online Sephora only
  • Limited edition (can't repurchase T^T)

Sorry for the red eyes, they were irritated by the eyeliner on my waterline. Plus my eyeliner's a mess because I was rushing to an event >.<.

 Steps:

  1. Apply Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk as a base on the lid and 3/4 of the lower lashline
  2. Apply Rose Quartz all over the lid
  3. Apply Serenity to the outer corners and the very  corner of the lower lashline, blend
  4. Apply Mello Yellow and Lind Green to the lashline in a gradient
  5. Apply a sparkly shadow to the inner corners (Etude House Bling Bling stick in Shooting Star)
  6. Line your eyes with a black eyeliner and the rim of your waterline
  7. Apply mascara and you're done!
